Reduction mammoplasty, also known as breast reduction surgery, is a surgical procedure whose objective is to reduce the size of the breasts. This procedure involves removing excess fat, glandular tissue and skin, resulting in smaller, lighter and firmer breasts.

Who should opt for this surgery?
Reduction Mammoplasty is recommended for women who are dissatisfied with the excessively large size of their breasts, whether for aesthetic or health reasons. Those who suffer from back, neck or shoulder pain, skin irritation under the breasts and restricted physical activities due to the weight of the breasts can benefit from this surgery.

How is Reduction Mammoplasty performed?
Generally, the surgery is performed under general anesthesia and can last from 2 to 5 hours. The surgeon makes an incision around the areola, which runs vertically down to the fold of the breast and, in some cases, along that fold. From there, excess tissue, fat and skin are removed, the breast is remodeled and the areola is repositioned to a higher position.

What are the benefits of Reduction Mammoplasty?
Benefits include relief from back, neck and shoulder pain, increased ability to participate in physical activities, improved self-esteem and greater ease in finding clothes that fit well.

Preoperative care
Before surgery, the doctor will perform a complete physical examination and may order tests to assess the patient’s health. It is important to stop smoking before the procedure, avoid medications that may increase the risk of bleeding and follow the instructions for fasting for approximately 8 hours before the procedure.

Postoperative care
After surgery, it is normal to experience some discomfort and swelling. Wearing a surgical bra is recommended to support your breasts during recovery. It is essential to follow the doctor’s instructions regarding dressing care, medication use and returning to normal activities. At Cplastica Brasília, we have our intensive post-operative care protocol, a complete team and exclusive space for this care.

How much does Reduction Mammoplasty cost?
The cost of surgery varies according to the complexity of the case, experience of the chosen surgeon, technologies used and specialized care team. However, it is always important to remember and consider that security should not be skimped on. At our clinic, safety always comes first.

The results of reduction mammoplasty are generally transformative. However, breast size can change due to pregnancy or changes in weight over time. Patients who maintain a proper lifestyle can enjoy the results for much longer.

Result of reduction mammoplasty without prosthesis and with prosthesis
Most of the time, reduction mammoplasty is performed without the use of a silicone implant, due to the large amount of breast tissue removed. In these cases, we consider not using prostheses, resulting in more natural, beautiful breasts in the appropriate position, but with a natural breast neck. In some cases of reduction mammoplasty, where the patient does not have such a large breast volume and has a narrow breast base, we can use a silicone prosthesis, if the patient wishes. Thus, we will have a breast reduction with a prosthetic breast neck. This decision will be planned and discussed during the consultation.

Consultation for this surgery
During the consultation, the surgeon will assess your general health, the complexity of your case, the possibility of performing breast reduction surgery with or without a silicone implant, discuss your expectations and explain the procedure in detail, including the risks and benefits.
